The Provincial Assembly of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) was held in the Celia Sanchez Manduley Theater at the headquarters of the Provincial Party Committee in Holguin on Wednesday, August 9, as a preview of the 10th national conclave to be held on August 26, 27 and 28 next month in Havana.
The cederistas from Holguin were accompanied by the Hero of the Republic of Cuba and national coordinator of the CDR, Gerardo Hernández Nordelo. Also present were Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, member of the Central Committee and First Secretary of the PCC in the province; Odalis Pérez, official of the Central Committee of the PCC; Vladimir Sauri Bermúdez, vice national coordinator of the CDR and Manuel de Jesús Velázquez Góngora, provincial coordinator.

Several delegates spoke with great enthusiasm and conviction, focused on revitalizing the integral functioning of the grassroots structures, raising revolutionary vigilance, with emphasis on the Mirando al Mar detachments in the territories with coasts, to confront the planting, trafficking and consumption of drugs that affect society.

"Our organization in these historic moments is very important. We have many tasks, among them, mainly, the work with children and young people. The integral attention towards early childhood begins in the neighborhood, we are going to work with them. Here is an example, a girl, president of a children's CDR, who is with us doing the work we need", said Claudia Fernandez, direct delegate to the X National Congress.

The 146 delegates present approved the 41 members of the Provincial Directorate and the 35 delegates to the X Congress, with more than 50 percent of the votes; in the plenary session Yailín Álvarez Velázquez was elected as the new coordinator of the CDR in Holguín.

To conclude, Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, national coordinator of the CDRs, presented a special recognition to the work of the outgoing coordinator Manuel de Jesús Velázquez Góngora. The performance of the most outstanding municipalities was also distinguished, they were Cueto, Sagua de Tánamo and "Calixto García"; the FAR and the Raw Material Company were also honored.
"These are times to unite, to eliminate social indiscipline, crime, corruption, to encourage young people and take care of them so that the patriotic history is never forgotten, to put heart to the neighborhood and to Cuba", stressed the member of the Central Committee of the Party and its first secretary in the province Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez in the historic Assembly of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution in Holguín.
