Four companies in the municipality of Banes are part of the portfolio of opportunities for foreign investment in the country: they are the Citrus Agroindustrial Company and the sorbet, cookie and canned food factories La Indiana, respectively.
All of them have collectives capable of reaching appreciable production volumes despite the existing situations with technology and raw materials due to the situation caused by the covid-19 and the US blockade against our country
In order to make this selection, the location of these enclaves, their surroundings and proximity to developing tourist areas such as Guardalavaca, Antilla and the future of the entire north-eastern coast were taken into account.
Last year, the star exportable product of this territory was charcoal, which helped Banes to have a positive 2020 in international economic relations by exporting 142 tons, between the Citrus Company and the Forestry Company, respectively, with emphasis on the former.
For this year the plans are more ambitious, despite the difficulties of the shipping companies with covid-19. According to Héctor Cuenca Ramos, specialist for International Relations and Foreign Investment of the Municipal Government, three containers of charcoal have already been extracted: two from the Citrus Company, with 20 tons each, and the other from the Forestry Company, with 18 tons.
The territory's other exportable product, bee honey, also exceeded its export plans by 5 percent, and expects to increase its exports this year, for which it has 22 producers, whose collections are destined for this purpose, and who in the first months of this year have already consummated their harvesting quotas for this stage.
